Julia McLean

Graduate Diploma in Human Rights Law

Julia is currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Human Rights Law. While completing her combined undergraduate degree in law and communications she developed an interest in human rights through her involvement with social justice and environmental campaigning.

While on exchange at the University of Washington Law School in Seattle, USA, Julia had the chance to undertake a variety of human rights related subjects. She also completed an internship at the American Civil Liberties Union in Seattle, where she worked on a project attempting to restore the voting rights of persons who had been released from prison following sentences for felonies.

Whilst in the USA, she also completed an internship at Global Action on Aging, a non-governmental organisation based at the United Nations in New York. Julia had the opportunity to attend meetings at the United Nations, including the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, an experience which furthered her interest in international human rights law.
